Erin Schultz received her Master of Science degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in New York City, May 2008. During her 10 months there, she perfected her distinct writing style and sharpened her skills in radio, photography and multi-media packages for the Web. She published class work in the New York Daily News, the Chicago Tribune, and Newsday.
Since receiving her Bacherlor of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1998, she's been a singer/guitarist/bassist for a touring rock cover band, a music store manager and a freelance writer, publishing a wide variety of arts and culture-based pieces in the Lansing State Journal, Grand Rapids Music Revue, and Gannett-owned alt-weekly NOISE.
Erin is currently working as a local editor for North Fork Patch.com, a New York City-based community news website being launched around the country. She is in the process of building the start-up multi-media site with a team of journalists who live in Long Island's coastal wine country, a beautiful and unique slice of the world only two hours away from the nation's most vibrant city.
Before that, she worked full-time at the Times/Review Newspapers, a series of award-winning weeklies, serving the North Fork since 1857. From school boards meetings to weekend music clinics with visiting rock stars, Erin covered everything worth writing about in Southold and Riverhead. She also contributed longer feature articles to the company's custom publications and often incorporated photography and short video packages for the papers' Web sites.

-- Julie Lane, Reporter, Times/Review Newspapers worked directly with Erin at Times/Review Newspapers “There's nothing average or mainstream about Erin Schultz. Like a photographer who strives to capture a uniquely creative visual and portray the essence of a subject, Erin has an incredible knack for turning the average story into a compelling and unforgettable portrait of the human character. Every individual has a story worth telling, every incident impacts something or someone. She is a consummate professional who steadfastly refuses to settle for run of the mill or mediocrity. She writes each story just as she lives her own life: with integrity and passion. I would wholeheartedly recommend Erin as a journalist or public relations professional. She will instinctively utilize her talents while steadfastly adhering to a strict code of ethics. Count on her to thoroughly research a problem or situation and consistently deliver stories or strategies that beget on-target results.” March 7, 2010 -- Laurie Robison, Custom Publications Editor, Lansing State Journal (Gannett) managed Erin at Gannett “I knew Erin as an inventive and hardworking student, one who'd already had considerable professional experience. She had wide-ranging interests, came up with sharp story ideas, reported diligently, wrote engagingly. Serious and committed to improving her work, she was a pleasure to teach.” June 1, 2010 -- Paula Span, Professor, Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism taught Erin at Columbia University - Graduate School of Journalism Video highlights from 2009:
Notebook and video camera in hand, Ms. Schultz was the first at the scene when Mattituck High School was locked down after bullet fragments grazed a student's head in October. She spent a full day on federally-owned Plum Island this fall, digging to find out why the island and its famed animal disease center are up for sale and what this will mean for the North Fork — and the nation. Ms. Schultz kicked-off the year on a musical note, interviewing 80-year-old jazz legend Teddy Charles at his home in Riverhead before the vibraphonist released his first album in 40 years.
